Our Story
A Personal Mission to Care
From the Founder, Jake Heikkinen
The story of Roswell Home Care began not in a boardroom, but in the quiet, often unseen corners of family life — where real caregiving happens, and where I saw firsthand both the beauty and the burden it can bring.
My passion for home care was shaped by two powerful personal experiences. The first was my mother’s battle with cancer. She faced the disease with extraordinary strength and grace, and I had the honor of walking beside her throughout that journey. I learned what it truly means to fight for your health, to support someone through pain, and to offer comfort when words aren’t enough. Her courage left a lasting imprint on me. She passed away five years ago, but the lessons she taught me about resilience, compassion, and human dignity continue to guide everything I do.
The second experience came through my godmother — a nurse and one of the most caring people I know. When her husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in his early 60s, she became his primary caregiver while still working full-time at a hospital. As his condition progressed, her own life began to shrink. Time once spent with her large, loving family — she’s one of ten siblings — was replaced with around-the-clock caregiving. Even after she retired, caring for her husband became a 24/7 responsibility. Though she did it with skill and devotion, the emotional toll was immense. Eventually, her own health began to suffer, and she had to make the difficult decision to place her husband in a specialized care facility. The experience left her isolated and distant from the siblings she was once so close to — a heartbreaking side effect of caregiver burnout.
These personal stories are why I started Roswell Home Care. I knew there had to be a better way — a way to support not just those in need of care, but also the family members who give so much of themselves every day. Our mission is to offer relief, reassurance, and respect to every client and every caregiver. That’s why we don’t have weekly service minimums and proudly provide respite care, even if it’s just for a night or two. Caregiving should not come at the cost of your own well-being.
The Heart Behind the Care
Lorena Tan, Administrator & Co-Founder
Lorena Tan brings over a decade of dedicated experience, heartfelt compassion, and clinical expertise to her role as Administrator of Roswell Home Care. With a background in nursing studies from the Philippines and certification as a CNA in the state of Georgia, Lorena has spent her career caring for seniors with a deep understanding of both their medical needs and their emotional well-being.
Before co-founding Roswell Home Care with Jake Heikkinen, Lorena worked in a variety of eldercare settings, including memory care, assisted living, independent living communities, and in-home care. This broad experience has given her a unique perspective on what it means to truly support individuals as they age — not just with dignity and professionalism, but with patience, empathy, and respect.
Lorena’s passion for caregiving is also deeply personal. Her own mother lived with diabetes and limited mobility, and Lorena was closely involved in caring for her at home. Sadly, her mother passed away five years ago after a fall caused a fatal head injury. That loss left a lasting impact on Lorena, reinforcing her commitment to high-quality, attentive care that prioritizes both safety and quality of life.
At Roswell Home Care, Lorena is the steady, compassionate presence behind the scenes — coordinating care, supporting families, and ensuring that every client is treated like her own family. Her dedication, warmth, and hands-on experience are at the heart of what makes Roswell Home Care a trusted name in the community.
For Lorena, caregiving isn’t just a job — it’s a calling, shaped by both her professional journey and her own family story. She’s proud to help create a home care agency where compassion meets excellence, and where every family can feel confident and supported.
